  • How MMS came to existence

    MMS Co. Ltd Tokyo: Ship Management

As a ship management company of the Meiji Shipping Co., Ltd. group, its mission is to "provide the worldwide standard service with maximum safety consideration and environmental consideration." We have bases in Tokyo, Singapore, Manila, and India, providing services such as ship management, crew manning, supervision of new shipbuilding construction, etc., and received high praise from customers both in Japan and overseas. This high evaluation is based on abundant experience and knowledge accumulated through history since the establishment in 1974. In addition to having management records corresponding to a wide variety of ship types such as tankers (LNG, VLCC, Aframax, LR, MR and VLGC), Bulker (Cape to Handy), PCTC and WCC etc.. in addition, crew members from the shore staff including officials/maritime/technical supervisors and from officers to members have pride that ship management is an essential task for international maritime transport, and solidarity with day and night with the aim of generating the self feeling as, “I am proud of the result that I achieve in my day to day work ”.

The company started as International Marine Consultant Co., Ltd., established in July 1974, and has grown based on ship management and new construction supervision for foreign ship owners. In November 1985, the company name was changed to MMS Co., Ltd., and at the same time the organization was strengthened, with the Singapore branch being opened (2009) followed by the New Delhi branch (2016) to meet diverse needs.

MMS Maritime (India) Pvt. Ltd

MMS Maritime (India) Pvt. Ltd was established in 2001 to support the MMS Group in Japan for employing high quality senior Indian personnel and maintaining a dedicated pool of seafarers for tanker operations. It was the second maritime recruiting company in India to be launched with a full Japanese capital.

The original name of MMS Maritime Agency (India) Pvt Ltd gave way to MMS Maritime (India) Pvt Ltd in November 2007, to indicate its wider role as it was transformed into a “Technical Support Center” along with just being a company involved with crewing and manning operations. In the same year, a branch office was also setup in New Delhi for better penetration into the shipping industry besides recruiting capable seafarers from the northern part of the country. There were just a few tank vessels and a bare handful of officers when MMSI started its operations. It was those officers who have exhibited their loyalty towards the company over the previous establishment and entirely supported the company in building up its system over the period of time. These officers have been the backbone of our company, and we at MMSI express our heartfelt gratitude to them for their immense contribution towards the company since then.

We have over 50 years of experience, with almost two decades of the local shipping industry, including in recruitment and training. We, therefore, have a clear understanding of the industry and the technological and regulatory environment in which we operate. The company continues to support and expand the ship management work of the whole group.
